SUMMARY OF MY
POLICIES AND SERVICES PROVIDED
Referrals
I accept referrals mainly from parents, but referrals can also come from health visitors, school nurses,
teachers, doctors, consultants and allied health professionals.
Location
I usually visit you and your child at your own home, but it may be possible to meet at a pre-arranged
consulting room. I am able to travel in and around Manchester, Cheshire, and the High Peak.
Initial session
The first time we meet, I would usually carry out an assessment, which is a combination of talking to parents to
gain background information, and also talking to, and working with your child, in a way that is appropriate for them. Following
this initial meeting, we would then plan together what the next step could be, based on my professional opinion, and parent's
wishes. This could be agreeing to work for a number of set sessions on a specific target, or perhaps working within school/
nursery setting. There are many possibilities as to how we could work together, as I aim to offer a flexible approach. All
therapy targets will be set following discussion and agreement with parents and myself.
Please note, the initial sessions are set at either 1 hour, or 2 hours. If it appears that it will last considerably
longer than this, then additonal charges, at the hourly rate, will be made.
Other Professionals
I always try to liaise with other professionals regarding my input with your child. This is often in the form of a report,
produced as a result of the initial assessment. However, it may be a 'phone call to a relevent person, perhaps a teacher,
or Health Visitor. Ideas, and programmes of therapy can also be discussed/ devised with educational settings.
Please note, if this liaison takes a long time, or a visit is required, then I will make a charge of my hourly
rate.
NHS Speech and Language Therapy
Most people are entitled to speech and langauge therapy provided by your local NHS service. I aim to work in collaboration
with your NHS department, liasing and sharing information where necessary. It should be possible for a child to receive input
from myself, and a NHS therapist at the same time, rather than one or the other.
Therapy Sessions
Each session will normally last around one hour. Young children can be seen for half an hour, at a reduced
rate. The session charge also includes:
· Prepared
activities to use with the client
· Additional
activities for parent/carers to use with the client
· Writing
case notes
Most equipment required
will be provided by the therapist, but in some cases, where expensive, specialist equipment is recommended, an agreement between
therapist and client regarding payment will be discussed.
Payment of Fees
Payment will be required
at the end of each session, by cash or cheque. Receipts will be issued.
Cancellation
Notice of a cancellation
of an appointment must be received within 24 hours, or the standard rate will be charged.
Private Health Insurance
If you have Private Health Insurance
you may be able to claim back the cost of your therapy and it is up to you to do so.
Payment, by cash or cheque at the point of delivery will still apply.
However, before you start any treatment, please:
- check with the insurer that the costs of treatment will be covered
- check that the insurer accepts the authority of the doctor who made the referral
These policies are just a guide, please do email me with your details,
so that we can discuss your circumstances, and I will try to help!
